Filming Locations in Iceland

Looking for filming locations in Iceland? We help productions shortlist realistic options, arrange scouting and assess access, permits and production feasibility before the location list gets ahead of the schedule.

Reykjavik and urban looks

Reykjavik is the practical anchor for many shoots because it combines crew depth, accommodation, transport and a useful range of streets, waterfronts, institutional interiors and interview-friendly locations.

South Coast

The South Coast suits briefs that need black sand, cliffs, waterfalls, sea exposure and recognisable Icelandic scale. It is visually strong, but route planning matters once parking, access windows, weather and crew movement are factored in.

Highlands and volcanic terrain

The Highlands and volcanic areas can deliver lava fields, ash-coloured interiors and more isolated landscapes, but they also demand realistic thinking about access, vehicles, seasonality, safety and time on the ground.

North Iceland and Akureyri

North Iceland gives productions a different rhythm, with Akureyri as a useful regional base alongside roads, coastlines, smaller communities and wider open looks that feel distinct from the capital and South Coast.

Westfjords and remote coastal settings

The Westfjords can work extremely well for remote coastal briefs, but they are not a drop-in option. Travel time, accommodation capacity, weather windows and crew efficiency all need to be tested before the location makes sense.

Protected areas and landowner access

Location planning in Iceland often depends on who controls the site and what the environmental constraints are. We help productions map protected-area rules, private landowner permissions and the practical access conditions that matter before committing.

Roads, weather, seasonality and parking

We assess feasibility as well as visuals: road conditions, parking, wind, daylight, carrying distance, basecamp options and whether a location still works once transport, kit and crew movement are included in the plan.

How scouting works in practice

Scouting is not just a picture search. We help narrow the shortlist, compare realistic route options, test access, flag weak assumptions and make sure the recce serves production planning rather than becoming a separate wish list.
